A day after a deadly attack on Kabul University in Afghanistan’s capital, Kabul, students from the university said they are fully prepared to continue their studies.

They said that such cowardly attacks will not deter them from education.

Ahmad Bilal, 19, a student, said he saw some horrific and shocking scenes during the attack.

“When I arrived at the faculty, I took a chair and started reading a book. Suddenly, I heard the shooting,” said Ahmad Bilal.

A joint book festival between Iran and Afghanistan was underway at the time of the attack.

Shahid Farhosh, an Afghan citizen, who visited the book exhibition when the attack happened, said he remembered another incident many years ago when he was wounded in a suicide attack in Kabul.

“The students were dispersed and were running away. There were gunfire and explosions. People were screaming,” said Farhosh.

Hamid Mehrdil, a student, who survived the attack, said her sister Nazanin Mehrdil, said they were in shock they heard from him that he is fine.

“The boys and girls were busy in studying when they suddenly the attackers came in, took them hostage and opened fire on them. This is shocking,” said Nazanin.

Those who survived the attack said they will not retreat.

“We will not retreat. We will fight till the end of our life,” said Hamida Mehrdil, a Kabul University student.

The attack killed 22 people, 18 of them students from Public Administration and Law faculties. Over 40 others were wounded, according to official figures.
