Three Civilians Found Dead in Herat: Police

Three civilians were found dead in Injil district in the western province of Herat on Friday, the provincial police said, adding that their bodies were burnt.

The victims include a man, a woman and a four-year-old child, Herat police spokesman Abdul Ahad Walizada said on Saturday.

He said the bodies were found on the Herat-Karokh highway.

The police spokesman said that the motive behind the incident is not clear so far, but an investigation has started in this respect.

He said the perpetrators have fled.

“As per initial findings, the bodies were burnt outside their house and their limbs were broken,” said Mohammad Arif Jalali, a physician at Herat Regional Hospital.

The incident was faced with criticism by Herat residents who said that perpetrators should be found and punished.

“Those who commit such crimes should be publicly executed by the government and then such crimes will not happen anymore,” said Mohammad Akhtar Ibrahimi, a Herat resident.

“Burning a human is against all humanitarian rules and regulations. This is beyond thinking,” said Abdul Sami Haqdost, a Herat resident.

Some religious scholars called the incident a cruel crime and an inhumane act.

“Islam refrains its believers even from burning animals… This is an inhumane act,” said Abdul Khaliq Haqqani, head of the Hajj and Religious Affairs Directorate of Herat.
