Armed Men Target MP's Vehicle, Three Guards Wounded

Armed robbers driving a police vehicle on Friday night attacked the convoy of Afghan lawmaker Amir Mohammad Khaksar in Pul-e-Surkh area in the west of Kabul in which three of his guards were wounded.

Eyewitnesses said that one of the robbers was killed in the incident.

The robbers managed to seize a vehicle and a weapon from the MP’s convoy.

“The robbers came and opened the car’s door. I was standing in front of the car. They opened fire and hit near my feet. I ran, then they opened fire on other persons,” said an eyewitness.

Khaksar was not in the car when the shooting occurred.

“Eyewitnesses were there. They told that a ranger came and stood in front of my guards and wounded three of them,” said Khaksar.

Kabul residents said police have failed to ensure people's safety.

“Security situation in Kabul has deteriorated,” said Abdul Sattar, a Kabul resident.

Interior Ministry refrained to provide details about how the armed robbers were driving a police vehicle.

“Our intelligence agencies are working hardly,” said Tariq Arian, a spokesman for the Ministry of Interior.

Alongside crime cases, Kabul has also witnessed seven explosions over the last week in which four people were killed.
