Five people were killed and two more were wounded in an explosion in Kapisa province, north of Kabul, on Sunday afternoon, a local official said.
The explosion targeted a vehicle carrying the head of the ulema council in Kapisa who was on his way from Kabul to the province, said Mohammad Husain Sanjani, head of the Kapisa provincial council.
He said seven people were in the vehicle and that five of them were killed and two more, including the head of the ulema council, were wounded.
The incident occurred in Sayyad market in Kapisa province, he said.
