At least 11 workers at the Pashdan Dam in Karokh district of Herat were abducted by the Taliban on Sunday, said Wakil Ahmad Karokhi, a provincial council member.

The workers were abducted in Karokh while they were busy at work, Karokhi said, adding that “four were released but seven remain in Taliban custody.”

Waheed Qatali, provincial governor, has confirmed the workers' abduction but did not provide details.

The Taliban has not yet commented on the abduction.

The dam is located in Karokh, 25 kilometers northwest of Herat city.

The dam has the capacity of 45 million cubic meters of water, generates two megawatts of power, and has the capacity to irrigate 13,000 hectares of land, officials said.

The project is worth $117 million, according to officials.
