7 People Killed in Criminal Incidents in Kabul in 3 Days: Report

Amid concerns over growing security threats in Kabul, a TOLOnews report revealed that at least seven people have been killed in the city as a result of criminal activity over the past three days.

Residents in Kabul criticized the government's security strategy for the national capital and said that serious crimes such as armed robbery have increased.

However, the office of First Vice President Amrullah Saleh said that the security situation has improved in Kabul.

Kabul has approximately 6 million inhabitants.

“I was going home from the shop and they took my money and phone,” said Ahmad Shekib, a resident in Kabul, referring to armed robberies.

“The robber hit me in my stomach,” said Ahmad Fawad, a resident in Kabul.

“We do not want anything, we want security, we want to go home in a secure way,” said Nangyalai, a resident in Kabul.

“Amrullah Saleh was helpful initially, but when he reached a position of power, then he did nothing,” said Ahmad Zia Noori, a father in Kabul who son was killed as a victim of criminal activity.

Last year Amrullah Saleh, in the midst of a crime wave in Kabul, personally took charge of the security situation in the city and launched a new security initiative called the"6:30 meeting." The meeting is convened every morning to assess the overall security situation in the city.

“Only a minister is able to report to the First Vice President, so there was no need felt by police chiefs and the head of the NDS for Kabul to be there, so we witnessed the outcome,” said military analyst Tahir Yarghal.

“The 6:30 meeting has managed to bring fundamental changes when it comes to combating terror activities and other criminal cases in Kabul,” said Zia Warsaji, a member of the media department of Saleh’s office.

“Ashraf Ghani and the Security Council are not willing to share the political power and security structures of Afghanistan independently with those people and with those who have a management capacity,” said military analyst Jawed Kohistani.

While the Presidential Palace claims to have appointed the most professional people to positions in the security organizations, members of Parliament have described the appointments as unprofessional.

“If the president does not break the circle that exists in the Arg (Presidential Palace), then the president will escape, Dr. Abdullah will escape, the war leaders will escape, then it will be the Afghan people who will fight the Taliban and Pakistan,” said MP Abdul Rauf Eshpon.
