Imran Khan 'In Dialogue' With Taliban Over Inclusive Govt

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday said he has begun talking to the Taliban about forming an inclusive government in Afghanistan.

Khan said he started the dialogue after meeting with leaders of Afghanistan’s neighbor countries in Tajikistan on Friday.

Khan said he is talking to the Taliban to form an inclusive government in which all ethnicities will be included.

“After meetings in Dushanbe with leaders of Afghanistan's neighbors and especially a lengthy discussion with Tajikistan's President Emomali Rahmon, I have initiated a dialogue with the Taliban for an inclusive Afghan govt to include Tajiks, Hazaras and Uzbeks,” Khan tweeted.

Khan also said an inclusive government could be the ultimate solution for peace and stability in Afghanistan after 40 years of continued war. “After 40 years of conflict, this inclusivity will ensure peace and a stable Afghanistan, which is in the interest not only of Afghanistan but the region as well,” he tweeted.

Meanwhile, a member of the Cultural Commission of the Information and Culture Ministry said the announced cabinet is inclusive, adding that they will not allow any country to interfere in Afghanistan’s internal affairs.

“The Islamic Emirate has established a cabinet which includes people from every ethnicity. There is no problem in this regard,” said Saeed Khosti, a member of the commission said.

“An inclusive government should be established, and everyone should see themselves in it. It will benefit both Afghanistan and the region,” said Sayed Ahmad Silab, an MP.

On Friday, at the 20th summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Tajikistan, Khan also called for economic support for Afghanistan and the formation of an inclusive government.

At the SCO summit, Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon also called for an inclusive government in Afghanistan.
