Electronic ID Card Center Reopens in Kabul

The issuing of electronic identify cards resumed on Saturday after a two-month long pause following the collapse of the former government.

Out of 25 electronic ID centers in Kabul, one has begun operating and is in the Soray Shamali area of Kabul.

Officials at the Civil Registration Authority said that more than 80,000 electronic identity cards would be issued from the center this week.

“We want the Islamic Emirate to reopen the other centers in other provinces and Kabul so the people can finish the procedure in a short time,” said Inayatullah, a government employee.

The National Statistics and Information Authority (NSIA) said earlier that due to technical registration problems, the process of distributing electronic identity cards would be delayed.

“The process of issuing the electronic identity cards began today,” said Shuja, an applicant. “For every province a separate section is organized and there is no problem in issuing as of now.”

The applicants called on the NSIA to reopen the remainder of the centers in the capital and provinces across the country.

Hundreds of people gathered in front of the electronic identity card center.

Some of the applicants were at the center to revise mistakes made in issuing their names. “I have been coming here for four months but still was unable to solve my problem. My son is sick, and I have to go to Iran, but I have a problem of a misspelling on my identity card,” said Issa, an applicant.
