Govt to Reopen Passport Offices in 7 Provinces

The department of passports announced on Saturday that it would resume issuing passports in seven of 34 provinces across the country.

Herat, Kandahar, Kunduz, Balkh, Nangarhar, Khost and Paktia provinces will resume operations this Sunday, said Alam Gul Haqqani, head of the passport department.

“From tomorrow (Sunday) the passport sections of seven provinces are ordered to resume operations,” he told a press room in Kabul.

Hundreds of people gathered in front of the passport department to get their passports issued.

“I have been checking here (passport department) for the past two weeks. I have a patient (who needs to travel abroad) but still there is no progress,” said Mohammad Ibrahim, an applicant.

According to the department, over 100,000 passports have been issued to citizens over the past month. The government received 500 million Afs in revenue.

Each day the department of passport issues 3,000 passports for applicants who filled in the forms and it issues around 150 passports to patients needing to travel for medical reasons, Haqqani said.

“Over 100,000 passports have been issued and more than 500 million Afs are made in revenue,” he said.
