Four Civilians Killed in Two Explosions in Herat

Four civilians were killed, and 25 others were injured, in two explosions in Herat’s Police District 9 on Friday evening.

Faiz Mohammad Faizan, head of Herat’s regional hospital, said five of those injured are in critical condition. “The injured are taken care of and only five of them are in critical condition,” he said.

According to those injured and their relatives, all the victims are civilians who had gathered at a playground where the explosions happened.

“The explosion occurred and I lost consciousness,” said Mohsin, a wounded person.

“Today we gathered there as we always do, then the explosions happened. I think the explosives were placed there beforehand,” said Jan Ali, another wounded person said.

Relatives and health officials said some of those injured who are in critical condition might be transferred to Iran for treatment.

So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the blasts.

In the meantime, at least five children were killed and two others were wounded in a blast from unexploded ordnance on Friday in Marja district of Helmand, local officials said.
