Passport Processing Resumes in Kabul

After a long delay, on Saturday the General Directorate of Passports restarted the online passport registration process for citizens in Kabul.

Shafiullah Tassal, spokesman of the directorate of passports, said that 2,000 applications would be accepted daily, and that this number would increase to 3,000 after the month of Ramadan.

“These activities started online. Today is 20 of Hamal (first month of the year). From today on, all citizens can register online to get passports, and we ask all our compatriots not to apply to the passport office with written papers,” said Shafiullah Tassal, spokesman of the General Directorate of Passports.

Meanwhile, some passport applicants said they have been trying to get passports for months.

“I came here from 15 Jadi to get a passport. I am sick, they took my documents and tore them,” said Zafar, the applicant.

“It has been two weeks since I came from Kunduz to exchange my passport. They did not change the passport for us, nor did they show us the way what to do it,” said Juma Gol, a resident of Kunduz.

“We ask the Islamic Emirate to open the passport office to the people and finish the work of the people as soon as possible,” said Baharuddin, a resident of Kabul.

However, officials at the the passport directorate say that the process of distributing passports in the provinces will begin after the month of Ramadan.
