Pakistan Attacks on Kunar, Khost Cause Dozens of Casualties

Dozens of people were killed and wounded in attacks carried out by the Pakistan forces in the southeastern province of Khost and the eastern province of Kunar.

Local officials in Khost told TOLOnews that airstrikes were conducted by the Pakistani military in districts in the province but did not provide details.

According to eyewitnesses more than 40 people have been killed or wounded in the attacks.

“It was 3:00 am, when the bombing started. The homes were destroyed, around 40 people including women and children were killed and wounded,” said Peer Janat, a wounded person.

This comes as the department of Information and Culture of Kunar province said that at least six people were killed in the artillery attacks carried out by Pakistani military on Shiltan district in Kunar province.

Residents of the Spiri district of Khost claim that Pakistani forces carried out airstrikes on Friday night in the province.

“At one residence, four people were killed, in another home nine people were killed and in another home 20 people. Seven people were killed and more than 20 others were wounded,” said Rasul Jan, a witness.

The wounded which have been evacuated to hospital, spoke of the attack:

“There were aircraft and maneuvering. They targeted our home first,” said Rangin Khan, a wounded person.

Analysts believe that the attacks indicate Pakistan’s direct interference and violation of Afghan national sovereignty.

“The airstrikes and ground operations conducted by the Pakistan forces alongside the (Durand Line) in Khost and Kunar are an obvious violation and interference in Afghan airspace and territory,” said Sadeq Shinwari, a political analyst.

The Pakistan ambassador Mansoor Ahmad Khan was summoned by the Afghan Foreign Ministry over Pakistani forces' attacks in Khost and Kunar, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in series of tweets.

The Foreign Ministry said that in the meeting with the Pakistani envoy, the acting foreign minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, and deputy defense minister Mullah Shireen Akhund, condemned the attacks by Pakistani forces.

Khost residents gathered today to protest recent attacks carried out by the Pakistani military in Khost and Kunar provinces. The protestors were chanting anti-Pakistan slogans.

Former President Hamid Karzai on Twitter condemned the Pakistani forces' attacks in Kunar and Khost provinces in which dozens of civilians-- including children and women--were killed and wounded. Karzai called the attacks a violation of Afghanistan’s sovereignty, a violation of intl norms and a crime against humanity.
