Families Displaced by Flooding Face Hardship in Baghlan

Dozens of families who have lost their houses to the harsh floods are spending their hot summer days in an open area of Dahana Ghoori district in Baghlan province.

The families are settled in the Bibi Gahwara area of the district.

Earlier, a deadly flood hit several parts of Baghlan province, leaving many people displaced.

Lack of drinking water, inadequate food as well as a lack of housing are some of the problems these families are facing.

“There is no water and we ask them to make a clinic for us here,” said Azizulla, one of the displaced people.

They expressed frustration, saying they are unable to treat their children who are suffering from various types of ailments.

Gulpari, one of the displaced people who has seven children--three of whom are sick--says that she is worried about losing her children because of hot weather, inadequate food and economic difficulties.

“We have economic problem and can't treat our children and thus our last hope is Allah,” she said.

Meanwhile local officials say the food material are distributed to these homeless and efforts are underway for making more food material.

“Most of the families are flood-affected and their homes are destroyed, and we help them,” said Mawlawi Asadullah, head of the information and culture department of Baghlan.

The floods destroyed their school as well.

“There is no school, no water and the floods destroed our village," said Nafisa, one of the students.

Local officials said they are attempting to address the problem of the displaced people in the province.
