Kabul Wants Good Relations with Neighbors, World: Stanekzai

The political deputy of Foreign Ministry considers the cooperation of neighboring countries and the region important for stability of Afghanistan.

Abbas Stanekzai, the political deputy of the Foreign Minisitry, stated that Kabul wants good relations with its neighbors as well as the world, at a gathering titled "The Future of Afghanistan's Relations with Neighboring Countries" which was organized by the Afghanistan International Strategic Studies Center (AISSC).

"The Islamic Emirate is committed to having positive and active political relations with its neighbors, with the countries of the region and with the whole world," said Shir Mohammad Abbas Stanekzai, deputy foreign minister.

He emphasized that if Afghanistan's neighbors do not cooperate, the challenges the country is currently facing will increase.

"Afghanistan and its neighbors ought to work to create a regionally coordinated system like Europe. Why can't we do it if Europeans can?" Stanekzai stated.

Speaking at the gathering, Stanekzai stressed that Afghanistan wouldn't be a threat to the world.

At the gathering, Shah Rokh Rufi, director of the Center for Strategic and Regional Studies, urged the Islamic Emirate to review its relations with its neighbors.

"The region should accept the fact that Afghanistan has changed from jihad and the fight against colonialism into a new arena, and there have been obvious changes in its interactions and relations, so it is clear that Afghanistan's neighbors should also accept some changes considering this situation,” he said.

“Those countries which have frozen the Afghan people's assets must release them,” said Mohammad Iqbal Khalil, chairman of the Institute of Regional Studies, Peshawar.

It has been more than ten months since the re-establishment of the Islamic Emirate in Afghanistan, but so far no country has recognized it.
