'400' People Killed in Flooding Across Afghanistan: Officials

At least 400 people have been killed in recent flooding across Afghanistan, the State Ministry of Natural Disaster Management said on Wednesday.

The floods also inflicted financial losses on the residents, according to the State Ministry of Natural Disaster Management.

“The wounded have been evacuated to the hospitals. The people whose residences were damaged in the floods, they have been evacuated and provided with tents,” said Mawlawi Sharfuddin Muslim, deputy Minister of Natural Disaster Management.

Over the past several days, many provinces have witnessed heavy rainfall and flooding.

The floods hit the provinces of Kunar, Nangarhar, Nuristan, Laghman, Panjshir, Parwan, Kabul, Kapisa, Maidan Wardak, Bamiyan, Ghazni, Logar, Samangan, Sar-e-Pul, Takhar, Paktia, Khost and Daikundi as well as the Salang areas.

“The flood hit hundreds of acres of land and there is land still underwater,” said Ahmadullah, a resident of Kunduz.

“Due to the heavy rainfall last night, the roof of a residence collapsed in which one man died and five others were wounded,” said Hamidullah Shinwari, a resident of Archin district of Nangarhar province.
