Amnesty Intl Concerned by Afghan Women’s Situation

Amnesty International in a report expressed concerns over the situation of women in Afghanistan and called on the “Taliban to implement major policy changes and measures to uphold the rights of women and girls.”

“Less than one year after the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan, their draconian policies are depriving millions of women and girls of their right to lead safe, free and fulfilling lives,” said Agnès Callamard, Amnesty International’s Secretary General.

The report of the Amnesty International said that since the Islamic Emirate swept into power, it has “violated women’s and girls’ rights to education, work and free movement.”

“Over the past year, girls and women are completely deprived of their rights. They don’t have the rights to work, education and other activities,” said Tahira Nasiri, a women’s rights activist.

The women’s rights activists said that the international human rights organizations must take serious actions for human rights in Afghanistan.

“The UN and other international organizations need to take serious action to demand human rights and women's rights in Afghanistan,” said Mawloda Tawana, a women’s rights defender.

The Islamic Emirate said that the rights of women and girls have been ensured since the Islamic Emirate swept into power.

“After the Islamic Emirate came to power, all rights of women and human rights have been ensured because there is no killing and robbing and corruption in the society now,” said Bilal Karimi, deputy spokesman for the Islamic Emirate.
