Humanitarian Issues Must Be Distinct From Politics: MoFA

The acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amir Khan Muttaqi, said that humanitarian matters should be separated from politics.

“Any issue, any step which affects the economy and has a negative impact on the people, should be isolated from political matters. We call for segregation of humanitarian issues from political issues all around the world,” Muttaqi said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said that the Islamic Emirate provided essential assistance to the people affected by recent natural disasters across the country.

Speaking at a conference aimed at collecting international aid for people affected by recent natural disasters, Amir Khan Muttaqi, acting foreign minister, said that 160 million Afs have been provided in cash for the people affected by the recent earthquakes in the country.

The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said there is need for investment in Afghanistan’s infrastructure to recover the country’s economy.

Speaking at the same conference, Ramiz Alakbarovm, deputy special envoy of the UN, said they provided aid to nearly 22 million people within the first six-months with food and other materials.

“We have delivered more than $1 billion in cash towards the humanitarian operations since the beginning of the year,” he said.

“Children and women are the most vulnerable in communities when disasters like this happen. UNICEF’s focus remains on children and women,” said a UNICEF official in Afghanistan.

This comes as the officials of the Islamic Emirate called on the international community to provide help to Afghanistan’s health and agriculture sectors as well as to support the Afghan refugees.

“In addition to lives lost and injures, the impact of the floods is vast and complex on the health sector,” said Qalindar Ebad, the acting Minister of Public Health.

Meanwhile, the representatives of several countries in Kabul pledged to provide aid for the vulnerable Afghans.

“Since the start of the year, our country has provided 57 tons of humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan,” said Nickolay Sazhenov, Head of Protocol Section of the Russian Embassy in Afghanistan.

According to MoFA, more than 200 people have died and 300 others have been wounded by recent flash floods across Afghanistan.

Dozens of acres of land were damaged and 12,000 homes were destroyed by the floods, Muttaqi said.
