Students Call on Govt to Reopen Girls' Schools

As girls over Grade 6 in Afghanistan still are not allowed to attend secondary school, dozens of school-age girls have turned to learning tailoring and knitting.

These students said that to fight depression they have joined these tailoring and knitting classes.

"It has been one year that our schools were closed. I want to become a doctor in the future, but now i am hopeless and now i am learning tailoring to be a tailor teacher," said Metera, a student.

Mursal is a student, but she is not allowed to go to school and now she teaches knitting to other students.

"The closing of schools has had a bad effect on girls. To get away from its bad effects i made a tailoring training class for these students," said Mursal, a student.
Some of these students called on the Islamic Emirate to reopen their schools immediately.

"We call on The Ministry of Education to reopen schools for girls," said another student.

"Society without women has no progress, we call on the government to reopen our schools so we can learn," said Sajyah, a student.

Meanwhile, the closure of schools continues to faced strong condemnation both inside the country and abroad.

Still now no decision has been made regarding the reopening of girls' schools above the sixth grade.
