Officials: Traffic Incidents Decreased in Afghanistan Compared to Last Year

The General Directorate of Traffic authorities said that traffic incidents in Afghanistan decreased by 5% compared to the previous year on World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic VIctims.

According to the General Directorate of Traffic's data, over 1,600 traffic accidents were reported in the last eight months, and more than 700 people died as a result.

“Regarding the issue that I have provided figures for, about 453 men, 72 women and 182 children were killed,” said Abdul Wadood Khairkhwah, director of Planning and Policy of the Kabul Traffic Directorate.

Khairkhwah added that in the past 8 months there have been nearly 300 traffic incidents in Kabul alone.

"The passenger cars are the high-speed vehicle kind of the 404, 580, and Corolla,” said Abdul Wadood Khairkhah, director of Planning and Policy of the Kabul Traffic Directorate.

Meanwhile, residents of the nation urged drivers to drive carefully to reduce the number of accidents on the road.

“They drive the cars so fast,” said Abdul Wase Ahmadzai, a resident of Kabul.

“All the travelers who trust these drivers should use full caution because the lives of travelers are in their hands,” said Zarifullah Farhamand, a resident of Kabul.

According to UN statistics, 50 million people are injured and 1.3 million people die each year as a result of road traffic crashes worldwide, which are the leading cause of mortality for children and young adults.
