The Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan, Vladimir Norov, said that in the meeting with the UN deputy special envoy for Afghanistan, Markus Potzel, the two sides discussed the situation in Afghanistan and implementing initiatives to set up an international group to negotiate with the Afghan government "to agree algorithm for the earliest fulfilling of mutual obligations of the parties."

The deputy head of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), Markus Potzel, is currently visiting Central Asian countries.

“UNAMA deputy-head Markus Potzel, concluded his series of meetings with government officials in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan on additional regional support to the Afghan people,” UNAMA said on Twitter, adding that it will continue its work with all regional actors to assist efforts for a meaningful peace in Afghanistan.

The head of the Islamic Emirate’s political office in Qatar, Suhail Shaheen, said the efforts of the countries to resolve the problems of Afghanistan are important.

“The Islamic Emirate’s policy is economical. It wants Afghanistan to become a regional hub and we welcome efforts in this regard so that we can reach our goals,” he said.

The analysts believe that an international group led by the UN should be formed to allow for negotiating with the Islamic Emirate.

“If the United Nations is leading a commission or there is a neutral organization, it can facilitate the support of the world very easily,” said Stana Gul Shirzad, a political analyst.

“Uzbekistan as a neighbor of Afghanistan can be an influential country in regional and international interactions, which can pave the way for negotiations on Afghanistan at the regional and international level,” said Hekmatullah Hekmat, a political analyst.

Earlier, Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev called for the formation of an international group to address the Afghan issue.
