Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) in cooperation with Google Arts held a virtual exhibition to introduce some historical places in Herat province.

The great mosque of Herat and Ikhtiyaruddin Castle of Herat, which is known as Herat Arg, are the main historical places shown in this exhibition.

"The aim of the exhibition is to introduce Afghanistan’s cultural places--specifically in Herat-- and to Increase awareness about these places for people outside and inside Afghanistan," said the Aga Khan Foundation.

Based on the exhibition, Herat city has a historical heritage of two thousand years.

The Information and Culture department of Herat province welcomed the launch of the exhibition.

"Our local and national monuments have to be introduced at the national and international level so they can attract domestic and foreign visitors," said Zalmai Safa, an official of the Information and Culture Department in Herat.

According to cultural analysts, such an exhibition can provide an opportunity for historical sites to be registered by UNESCO as a cultural heritage site.

Herat has 800 historical sites and around 200 of them are registered.
