The International Rescue Committee (IRC) said that has resumed operations in the health and education sectors with the assurance of Afghanistan's ministries.

The IRC said in a report that it has reached almost 53,000 Afghans a week since relaunching its operations.

“We continue discussions with provincial authorities to open health and nutrition activities and education programming in more provinces and to secure reliable assurances that would allow our female staff to safely return to work in other sectors,” the IRC said.

This comes as the World Food Programm said that currently 20 million people in Afghanistan do not know where their next meal will come from.

“WFP Afghanistan is expecting nearly 100,000 metric tons of wheat grains from Ukraine thanks to contributions from the United States of America and Canada. From Ukraine the wheat is being shipped to Turkey for milling and fortification. We expect 68,000 metric tons of fortified wheat flour for Afghanistan. 16,000 metric tons have already arrived in the country and are under distribution,” said Phillipe Kropf, a spokesman for the WFP in Afghanistan.

“It is better to use alternative measures in politics and so the aid, which could be effective for the people of Afghanistan and its economy and poverty, be continued,” said Mir Shikib Mir, an economist.

The Ministry of Economy said that 91 organizations have received licenses for their activities.

“We are trying to form a structure through transparency to be able to continue their activities,” said Abdul Latif Nazari, deputy Minister of Economy.

The WFP also said that 9 out of 10 households in Afghanistan do not have access to sufficient food.

Earlier the WFP told TOLOnews that it had provided 1.4 million people with assistance in the first two weeks of January.
