'Taliban Policies Threaten Aid Delivery to Millions': West

The US special envoy for Afghanistan, Thomas West, has concluded his four-day visit to Pakistan, Germany and Switzerland, where he discussed issues related to Afghanistan, including human rights as well as women’s access to work and education.

West said on Twitter that he met with the leadership of the International Organization for Migration and World Health Organization in Geneva.

“Participated in detailed discussion with likeminded permanent representatives in Geneva RE: unified response to recent edicts,” he said. “Simply put, Taliban policies threaten aid delivery to millions.”

“Fortunate to meet in Geneva with leadership of International Organization for Migration, World Health Organization, and other relief orgs, all undertaking life-saving work across Afghanistan - supporting migrants, healthcare systems, and disaster victims, among much else,” West added.

The Islamic Emirate called the concerns of the US unnecessary, saying that the political issues should not be linked to the humanitarian issues.

“The issue of the humanitarian aid should not be linked to the political issues. Thomas West is someone who is appointed in political affairs for Afghanistan. He should understand the issues and try to bring US and Afghanistan diplomatic relations close,” Islamic Emirate’s Spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said.

The political analysts gave various opinions in this regard.

“It would be a good move that the Taliban contact Thomas West and solve the issues via understanding,” said Stana Gul, a political analyst.

Prior to Switzerland, the US special envoy visited Pakistan and Germany.
