Dozens of Ill Afghan Children to be Treated in Germany

A delegation of Germany’s Peace Village International arrived in Kabul on Thursday to assess children who need to be taken to Germany for medical treatment.

A member of the delegation told TOLOnews that less than 100 children can be helped by the service.

20 out of 120 children were selected by the organization for medical treatment in Germany.

TOLOnews reached out to some of the vulnerable children who were suffering from severe diseases.

Habibullah, 2, has burns from hot water. The affects of burning are visible on his chest and one of his hands.

He was selected by Germany’s Peace Village International to be taken for medical treatment to Germany.

“I brought my son here last year to the Afghanistan Red Crescent Society. We were told to bring him here after one year. He is now being taken by Germany’s Peace Village International for treatment in Germany,” said Ghulam Haidar, father of Habib.

Around 500 children were brought to Afghanistan Red Crescent Society.

A spokesman for the Afghanistan Red Crescent Society, Irfanullah Sharafzoi, said that the medical documents of some of the children will also be sent to Germany for medical examination.

“The treatment of the patients has begun and it will last for seven-days. Nearly 1,000 citizens are referred at this level. But only the patients who are eligible are being selected,” he said.

Germany’s Peace Village International has treated more than 4,000 Afghan children in Germany since 1988.
