Delegation From Refugees Ministry Leaves for Iran

A delegation of the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation left Kabul on Tuesday for Iran to investigate the situation of the Afghan migrants in the country.

A spokesman for the ministry, Abdul Mutalib Haqqani, said that the delegation will try to find a solution for the challenges of the Afghan refugees in Iran and will also assess the activities of the Afghan diplomatic workers dealing with refugees.

“A delegation of the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation traveled to Iran. The visit aims to assess the Afghan attaché there,” he said.

This comes as the Afghanistan consulate in Karachi.

Pakistan said that more than 500 Afghans are living in Pakistan’s prisons.

“We are hearing that the conditions of the remaining Afghans who are in the prison are not good. Their food is not good and they are not being treated well. The Pakistani government should show mercy and release them,” said Abdul Jabar Takhari, Afghan consulate in Karachi.

Meanwhile, some Afghan refugees in Iran and Turkey expressed concerns over the mistreatment of these two countries’ officials towards them.

“Many of the Afghans who came to Turkey and are living here—many of them lack legal documents—and they are facing severe problems. Their problems have not been addressed as they should,” said Ahmad Faisal Nizami, an Afghan refugee in Turkey.

The Associated Press reported that the European Union on Tuesday urged its member countries to deport more people who enter Europe without authorization and who are not eligible to stay, saying that only around one in five would-be migrants who should be sent home actually is.
