Ghulam Mohammad Mohammadi, a famous Afghan historian, died of cancer at age 69 on Saturday in Kabul.

He was buried in Kabul on Sunday.

Mohammadi wrote 31 works, some of which remain unpublished.

“He was pious. He lived in poverty but with honor,” said Abdul Mubin, a relative of Mohammadi.

“The work that Mr. Mohammadi left is good work and is in archives in neighboring countries and even European countries,” said Ezatullah Nazari, a relative of Mohammadi.

Some historians described Mohammadi as a critical writer and urged the caretaker government to publish his works.

“Lecturer Mohammadi was one of the figures who would oppose other works and try to investigate and then write new (historical) work,” said Farzad Majeed Por, a researcher.

Mohammadi was born in 1333 (solar year) in Anaba district of Panjshir. He was wounded in the civil war.

Mohammadi spent most of his life as a teacher and researcher.
