The Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson criticized the International Criminal Court’s stance on the investigation of war crimes committed by foreign troops over the past two-decades in Afghanistan and Iran.

“So, we will not see any investigation of crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan, where hundreds of civilians died. (I am) speaking about Iraq and Afghanistan. Well, no one has counted the number of civilians that died in Afghanistan but everyone knows that NATO was there,” said Maria Zakharova at a press conference.

The Islamic Emirate also said that thousands of Afghans were killed during the presence of US-led NATO troops over the past 20-years in Afghanistan.

“Thousands of people in the provinces in rural areas which were out of the reach of media, were being eliminated cruelty and brutally. We are not assured that any international court would investigate it,” said Zabiullah Mujahid, Islamic Emirate’s Spokesman.

“The international courts based on the demands of the victims of the war crimes and human rights defenders can take action for their cases,” said Farooq Alimi, a legal analyst.

The political analysts said that the prosecution of crimes committed by foreigners in Afghanistan would even help with stability in Afghanistan.

"The prosecution of civil and foreign war crimes is an important issue, if this issue is pursued, peace and stability will be ensured in Afghanistan,” said Asadullah Nadim, a political analyst.

"Many of these damages have been inflicted on civilians because defenceless people suffer mostly in war,” said Mohammad Mateen Mohammad Khail, political analyst.

The US-led NATO mission in Afghanistan included 140,000 troops from around 50 countries of the world.
