Over 500,000 Passports Issued Last Solar Year: Officials

Over 500,000 passports have been issued in solar 1401 (March 2022 to March 2023), a spokesman for the General Directorate of Passport, Noorulalh Patman, said on Sunday, adding that the process is underway at a normal pace.

“We distribute around 10,000 passports a day, including in the capital city, Kabul,” he said.

Patman added that more than 200 people involved in corruption in the process of passport distribution were arrested and referred to judiciaries.

“Efforts are underway to detain (other) corrupt people,” he said.

But some passport applicants said they are not happy with the process.

Samar Gul, a passport applicant, said it has been over a year that he has not yet succeeded in getting a passport.

“My mother is in a critical condition. We took her to the passport department to take a passport,” he said.

Kabul residents meanwhile called on the General Directorate of Passport to accelerate the process of passport issuance.

“Those who don’t have problems, why would they need a passport? They should apply for passport if they really need it. People have patients, and they should not be kept waiting for days,” said Rohullah, a Kabul resident.

The General Directorate of Passport has said it has collected over 5 billion Afs in revenue from passport distribution.
