15,000 Passports Distributed Each Day: Spokesman

A spokesman for the General Directorate of Passports said that between 8,000 to 10,000 passports are being distributed on a daily basis and that efforts are underway to increase it 15,000.

Noorullah Patman, the directorate spokesman, said that 200 people have been detained on charges of corruption in the process of passport distribution.

“With the start of 1401 until now, we have detained nearly 200 people on charges of forging fake documents and they have been handed over to the relevant departments,” he said.

Meanwhile, some Kabul residents said that they are facing severe challenges in making payments for passport services to the banks.

“We call on the government to work with every bank so the people can easily pay their fees and not face problems,” said Naeem Shah, a resident of Kabul.

“We are paying the money based on this receipt. There is a lot of crowds and our problem cannot be solved. We stand in line for the banks for several days,” said Zia Amini, a resident of Kabul.

Some other residents of Kabul claimed that there are fraudulent individuals who are asking for money to proceed with their passport’s issuance.

However, Patman said that the fraudulent individuals have been detained.

The spokesman said that the passport department will make contracts with other private banks to ease the process of bill payments for the applicants.
