Joint Office for Afghan-Trans Railway Project Opens in Uzbekistan

A joint office for close coordination of the implementation of the Afghan-Trans Railway project was opened in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, the Afghanistan Railway Authority said on Twitter.

The Afghanistan Railway Authority (ARA) said that the office was opened after a tripartite meeting between Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and Pakistan officials.

Bakht-ur-Rahman Sharafat, head of the Afghanistan Railway Authority, led the delegation to Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The offices for the Afghan-Trans railway project will soon be opened in Kabul and Islamabad, according to Abdul Sami, the ARA's spokesperson.

"It has been decided to establish an agency in Kabul and another agency in Pakistan,” the spokesperson noted.

In the meantime, Abdul Latif Nazari, the deputy of the Ministry of Economy, said that the Afghan-Trans Railway project plays an important role in the country's economic mobility.

"The importance of this project is that it can ultimately lead to economic mobility, poverty reduction, economic growth, and development in the nation," Nazari added.

According to some economists, this project will provide many facilities in the field of commercial goods transportation.

"This railway goes from our northern borders to the south, east, and west of Afghanistan and connects us with the railway networks of different countries, and in this way we can provide our exports and imports much cheaper,” said Azerakhsh Hafizi, an economist.

"With the transfer of this project, a great commercial revolution will be created in the region,” said Qutbuddin Yaqubi, a political analyst.

The Afghan-Trans Railway connects Central Asian countries with South Asian countries by passing through Afghanistan.

According to data from the Afghanistan Railway Authority (ARA), the Afghan-Trans Railway project from Mazar-e-Sharif to Torkham is more than 760 kilometers long and is expected to cost $6 billion to complete.
