Pakistan Claims TTP Has Safe Havens in Afghanistan

Pakistan's Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah claimed that Afghanistan has become a safe haven for the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

In an interview with Pakistani media (Aaj News), Sanaullah asked the current Afghan government to stick to the commitments it has made with the world.

"They are mistaken; as you know, Pakistani security personnel as well as our army officers die every day. The safe haven is over there (Afghanistan), not here. From there, they plan and send a group of three to five people here for this reason. Talks with the Afghan government are ongoing in this respect,” Sanaullah noted.

However, Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, rejected the claims of Pakistan's interior minister and asserted that Afghanistan's land would not be used against any nation.

"We do not allow people associated with the TTP, and the internal issues of Pakistan belong to them. They should ensure security in Pakistan, and when they are unable to take certain actions, then they divert and mislead the public's attention by relating the issue to Afghanistan," Mujahid told TOLOnews.

There is no indication that Afghan refugees in Pakistan or along its border have engaged in acts of extremism, the White House said, after Pakistan's army expressed concern that militants had found safe havens in Afghanistan.

"We've seen no indication that Afghan refugees in Pakistan or along that border are guilty of acts of terrorism," White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters at a press briefing on Monday.

"TTP has a strong and active presence in Afghanistan, but the Taliban have influence over them to the extent that they were able to prevent their operations in the territory of Pakistan in an agreement with Pakistan," said Asadullah Nadim, a military expert.

Earlier, Pakistani military personnel claimed that Afghanistan is a safe haven for TTP and other terrorists who shed the blood of Pakistanis.

Inter-Services Public Relations Pakistan in a statement has said that General Syed Asim Munir, Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff, during a visit with injured soldiers of the recent terrorist attack in Zhob, briefed that “the involvement of Afghan nationals in acts of terrorism in Pakistan is another important concern that needs to be addressed. Such attacks are intolerable and would elicit an effective response from the Security Forces of Pakistan.”

But the Islamic Emirate has always denied such claims and said that Afghanistan's territory is not a threat to any world countries.
