Shafiullah Rahimi, the spokesperson of the State Ministry for Natural Disaster Management, said that within one year's time natural disasters killed around 700 people and more than 700 people have been injured.
Speaking at a press conference on annual activities, Rahimi said that 20,000 residences were damaged because of natural disasters during this period.
“We have implemented 120 emergency and restorative projects,” he said.
The general director of financial and administrative affairs of the State Ministry for Disaster Management, Abdul Rahman Zahid, said that 20 provinces experienced floods and four other provinces experienced earthquakes over the last year.
“This Ministry has recognized the natural disasters in the districts and 20 provinces faced high threats from floods, and four provinces faced earthquakes. Bamiyan, Daikundi, Badakhshan, Ghazni, Parwan and Baghlan witnessed avalanches,” he said.
Noorddin Rustam Khil, head of the coordination of mine clearance at the State Ministry for Natural Disaster Management, told the press that within the last year, at least 180 people were killed, and 310 others were wounded due to mines and unexploded ordnance.
He said that 65 kilometers of land have been cleared of mines and explosive ordinances.
Based on the figures of the State Ministry for Disaster Management, nearly 1.2 kilometers of land still includes explosive ordinances.
