US Rep. McCaul Speaks of 'Horrors' at Kabul Airport During US Withdrawal

The US House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul once again criticized the hasty departure of American forces from Afghanistan only one day before the two-year mark of their full withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Speaking at the commemoration of the death of thirteen American soldiers in a suicide attack at Kabul airport, McCaul claimed that this attack was carried out by people who were released from Bagram prison after the fall of the previous government.

“President Biden ignored all of it, and as a result, the world watched, the horrors unfold at the Kabul airport. People falling from airplanes. Innocent women and children being beaten and killed by the Taliban attempting to escape to freedom, and your sons and daughters witnessed this, and then the unthinkable happened, bombing at Abbey Gate killing 13 US service members and injuring 45 more,” he said.

The 20-year US war in Afghanistan, according to some other members of Congress, had cost the US greatly in terms of both money and lives, and they could no longer afford continuing it.

“This 20-year war cost us so much,” Pennsylvania Democrat Madeleine Dean said. “We could not continue to send Americans to fight a war no longer in the Americans' vital interest.”

“August 26, 2021, was not bad luck of war that took your sons and daughters. There was indifference by Joe Biden. He did something that I thank God I never experienced during my time in combat. He sought to execute a political operation to win political points,” said Brian Mast, a US Representative.

Although the Islamic Emirate did not comment on this, it has said it considers the withdrawal of American forces from the country to be a benefit both sides.

"The people of Afghanistan resisted, stood up, and finally the occupying forces led by America were forced to sit at the negotiating table and sign the Doha Agreement. This later led to the expulsion of the occupying forces from the country,” said Bilal Karimi, deputy spokesman of the Islamic Emirate.

The US and Taliban signed the Doha Agreement on February 29, 2020, in Doha, Qatar, in which Washington agreed to withdraw all of its and NATO's troops from Afghanistan at a particular time.

On August 31, 2021, American soldiers departed the Kabul airport, ending the country's longest war.
