The US special envoy for Afghanistan Thomas West said in a series of posts on X that on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly he met with the Pakistan’s caretaker foreign minister Jalil Abbas Jilani and discussed the “shared security interests, the imperative to support Afghan women and girls’ rights, and the status of humanitarian support in Afghanistan.”
West said he also met with President & CEO of the International Rescue Committee, David Miliband. IRC is “a tremendous partner at the forefront of delivering principled assistance across Afghanistan, West said.
West posted about his meeting with Anniken Huitfeldt, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway, saying that they discussed shared interests in Afghanistan.
“Norway is a critical partner as we seek to continue principled support of the Afghan people,” he said.
All of the meetings took place on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, where heads of the government and state gathered this week.
