The UN World Food Programme said that it has helped 285,000 people, including 1,560 metric tonnes of food materials and $3.5 million cash.
The spokesman for World Food Programme (WFP), Ziauddin Safi, said that the agency needs another $23.6 million to help 600,000 refugees deported by Pakistan.
“We are providing organic biscuits and cash for the returnees so that their needs are provided. We are currently funding this assistance through our programs,” he said.
Meanwhile, the people who have been deported voiced concerns about their situation, saying that the current rate of assistance is not sufficient.
They call on the aid organizations to provide them with further assistance.
“We call on the Islamic Emirate to provide us with shelter and land. We are happy that we are receiving assistance at Torkham but this assistance is not sufficient,” said Mohammad Wali, a returnee.
Mohammad Hossein, who has lived in Pakistan for 20 years, was recently deported by Pakistan.
“Pakistan has made life for the refugees difficult. They even didn’t allow us to carry our money,” he said.
This comes as the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation (MoRR) pledged to provide the refugees with more assistance.
“Every family will be provided with 10,000 Afs by the Islamic Emirate. Also, the IOM (International Organization of Migration) is providing over 10,000 Afs.
The UN refugee agency is providing assistance to them as well,” said Abdul Rahman Rashid, Deputy Minister of Refugees and Repatriation.
Earlier, the UN refugee agency (UNHCR) warned that Afghans could die in harsh winter conditions if they don’t get adequate shelter once they cross the border from Pakistan.
