Kabul Summit Stressed 'No Support' for Insecurity in Region: Muttaqi

Speaking at a press conference after the “Afghanistan’s Regional Cooperation Initiative" summit, the acting foreign minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, said that it was stressed in the meeting that there should be no support from any side for insecurity of the region.

He also said that the participants stated that the practical work on major projects in Afghanistan should begin in cooperation with the regional countries.

According to Muttaqi, the participants agreed that the wishes of the Islamic Emirate in the meeting that is due to be held in three weeks in Doha, should be considered.

“Security, stability and development of Afghanistan is in the interest of everyone. There should be no support for insecurity in the region,” he said.
Muttaqi also argued that convening such meetings shows the strong engagement of regional countries with the interim Afghan government.

Meanwhile, the deputy spokesman for the Foreign Ministry, Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal, quoted the Indonesian envoy from the summit as saying that "regional cooperation is the stepping stone for international cooperation."

‘We can not make progress without each other,’ he said. "Our demand is that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan becomes an active part of the international community."

He also quoted the Indian representative at the summit as saying "India actively takes part in international and regional initiatives regarding Afghanistan, and supports every effort leading to the stability and the development of Afghanistan."

The summit, named “Afghanistan’s Regional Cooperation Initiative” was held with the participation of envoys of regional countries on Monday in Kabul.
