China: Accepting Kabul Envoy’s Credentials “Normal Diplomatic Arrangement”

Wang Wenbin, a spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, said that accepting the credentials of the ambassador of the interim Afghan government was a “normal diplomatic” arrangement.

“It is normal diplomatic arrangement for China to receive the Afghan interim government’s ambassador & his credentials,” he said as quoted on his X page. “We hope the world will engage more with the interim gov, encourage it to respond to international concerns, and help in Afghanistan’s reconstruction and development.”

This comes as 30 Jan. the Chinese President Xi Jinping accepted the credentials of Bilal Karimi as the Islamic Emirate’s ambassador to Beijing, which also sparked reactions at international levels.

Addressing a press briefing, US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said that the relationship of the “Taliban” with the international community depends entirely on their actions.

The Islamic Emirate meanwhile said that the Islamic Emirate has official engagement with the countries and that some of them are trying not to announce their engagement in a bid to protect their interest.

“The Islamic Emirate has official engagement with countries. Countries also have official engagements with us but it is not being announced because of the interest of those countries,” said Zabiullah Mujahid, Islamic Emirate’s spokesman.

Speaking at a press conference after the “Afghanistan’s Regional Cooperation Initiative” meeting, the acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi praised the acceptance of the Islamic Emirate’s ambassador in China and urged the extension of relations with China.

“China is an important country in the region. It was the first country to accept Afghanistan's ambassador and send its envoy to Afghanistan,” he said.

The deputy Prime Minister for political affairs, Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, recently said that at least 17 political missions of the Islamic Emirate are active abroad.
