The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology announced the connection of 26 provinces of the country to fiber optic services.
Enayatullah Alokozay, the spokesperson of the ministry, said that currently, seven regions of the country are connected to fiber optic services through neighboring countries, and some other countries are also interested in investing in this sector.
The spokesperson of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology said: “So far, 26 provinces of the country have been connected to fiber optics, and yesterday we also connected Farah province to this network. The people of Afghanistan can use these services.”
According to the spokesperson, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology is also working to expand these services to the districts of provinces that are not yet included in this process.
Enayatullah Alokozay said: “We are connected to the fiber optic network at 7 points, including Central Asian and South Asian countries.”
Some citizens and economic analysts considered the expansion of internet services in remote areas of the country important and asked the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to make more efforts to reduce internet costs and improve its quality.
“The expansion of fiber optics can impact Afghanistan’s economy, including improving internet quality and speed, which enhances business efficiency. Lower prices will strengthen e-commerce,” said Shaker Yaqubi, an economic analyst.
“Our request is to pay attention to the quality and price of the internet,” said Mohammad, a resident of Kabul.
Earlier, residents of several districts and remote areas of the country criticized the lack of access to telecommunications and internet services.
