Seven members of a family, including women and children, died late yesterday (Sunday) as a result of a landslide in the Samkani district of Paktia province.
The head of natural disaster management in Paktia province, who went to the incident site to offer condolences and provide assistance, said that only the father and his wife survived the incident.
Nisar Ahmad Najat, the head of the natural disaster management department of Paktia, said: "Last night at around 11:30, this incident occurred in the village of Orgor in the Samkani district, killing seven people from this house. Local people and district officials have come to the area, but there is a lot of dust."
Samand, a resident of Jak Orgor village in the Samkani district of Paktia, who lost 3 daughters, 2 sons, and 2 grandchildren in this incident, told TOLOnews: "I had gone to see a patient, and when I came back, I went to bed. Suddenly, I heard a noise and went outside to see that the mountain had come down on the house, and all my children were buried under it."
Residents are also asking for help for the affected family. According to the residents, this family is poor and has no breadwinner.
The locals are also worried about the possibility of another part of the mountain sliding in the future and have asked officials to take practical steps in this regard.
"When this incident happened, people used shovels and pickaxes to pull the individuals out from under the soil, but they were all dead. The economic situation of this family is not good, and we ask the authorities to cooperate with them," said Mohammad Ayoub, a resident of Samkani district.
"This mountain may collapse again in the future, and many houses are at risk. Our request to the Islamic Emirate and organizations is to prevent this," said Abedullah, another resident.
This incident occurred while earlier in the Wazi Zadran district of this province, five people died due to a landslide.
