Faisal Albaqami, the Saudi Arabian ambassador to Kabul, emphasized the expansion of relations between the two countries [Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia] during a meeting with Abdul Salam Hanafi, the Islamic Emirate's deputy prime minister for administrative affairs, yesterday (Thursday).
According to the published statement by the Arg, Faisal Albaqami also assured his country's cooperation with Afghanistan, especially in providing humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan and Afghan refugees in the near future.
The statement said: "Faisal Albaqami spoke about the historical relations between the two countries and said that Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan, as two Muslim and friendly countries, have long-standing relations in political, cultural, and economic fields. They are striving to expand and strengthen these relations in the future. The Saudi ambassador also stated that his country always seeks to help and cooperate with Afghanistan in various fields."
During this meeting, Abdul Salam Hanafi also described Saudi Arabia as an important and influential country in the Islamic world.
Salim Paigir, a political analyst, said about having relations with Saudi Arabia: "Improving good relations with Saudi Arabia means that we can open the door of friendship with most Islamic countries."
"Although Saudi Arabia takes positions parallel to the West, especially the United States, as an Islamic country, its relations with the current government of Afghanistan are desirable," said Abdul Naser Shafiq, another political analyst.
This comes as the Saudi Arabian ambassador has returned to Afghanistan after a year and a half.
Earlier, Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, had announced the possible return of the Saudi Arabian ambassador to Kabul on the sidelines of the third Doha meeting.
