Biden Says He Was Against the Occupation of Afghanistan

US President Joe Biden, in a speech at the conclusion of the NATO summit, called his country's occupation of Afghanistan a mistake.

In the speech,  Biden said that at that time he was against the occupation of Afghanistan, and the US should have left Afghanistan after killing Osama bin Laden.

The U.S. president warned Israel not to repeat this mistake in Gaza.

Biden said: “The one thing I said to Israel and the members of the war cabinet would be, don’t make the same mistake America made after bin Laden. There is no need to occupy anywhere, go after the people who did the job.”

"I was totally opposed to the  occupation and trying to unite Afghanistan once we got bin Laden, we should’ve moved on. Because — no one is gonna unite that country. I went over every inch of that - not every inch but the entirety from the poppy fields all the way to the north, I said don’t make the same mistake we made.”

Although the Islamic Emirate has not commented on Biden's remarks, in the past it has mentioned that the military defeat of US forces in Afghanistan was one of the main reasons for America's withdrawal from the country.

At the same time, some experts say that the US came to Afghanistan for its own interests and based on a specific strategy and plan.

Moeen Gul Samkanai, a political analyst, said: "When they say they never wanted to occupy Afghanistan and it was not our policy, this is a lie. They had a plan, and if we look behind the scenes, there was a special program to conquer Afghanistan."

Donald Trump, Joe Biden's rival presidential candidate, called the withdrawal of American soldiers from Afghanistan disgraceful during the first US election debate.
