Findings from a study in the United States show that 66% of men in Afghanistan support the provision of women's rights in the country.
According to the University of Massachusetts Amherst survey, 66% of men strongly agree that women's access to human rights, particularly the right to education, political participation, and other rights, is one of the main priorities for the future of the country, and 45% of these individuals support the “Taliban” government.
Charli Carpenter, professor of political science and director of the Human Security Lab at UMass Amherst of the United States, said in the study: "Just caring about women’s rights is the first step; but men must also act on the behalf of women and girls to truly bring about change. The question of men’s support for women’s human rights is not just a question for Afghanistan, but for all countries.”
Abdullah, a resident of Kabul and father of four children, said he has many aspirations for Sediqa, his only daughter, but her inability to continue her education beyond the sixth grade saddens him.
Abdullah told TOLOnews: "Unfortunately, I don't know what will become of their future now. There is no bright future ahead for them. I hope it changes."
Sediqa, who has been deprived of continuing her education, wipes her tears with the edge of her hands and speaks of her unfulfilled dreams: "I wanted to become a teacher and serve the children of this land, but now that the Taliban have come, I have no dreams."
Meanwhile, some residents of the capital also emphasized the need to provide citizens' rights without any discrimination.
"Providing equal rights means that the rights of girls and boys should be ensured without difference. I request the Islamic Emirate considers the rights of girls," said Qand Agha, a resident of Kabul.
"We ask the Islamic Emirate to pay special attention to the education of our children and the children of this country. There should be no difference between boys and girls as there isn't in Islam," said Waheed Mohammad, a resident of Kabul.
Earlier, the interim government has always stated that the rights of women and girls in the country are ensured based on Islamic Sharia.
