Islamic Emirate: Security at Iran Border Ensured

Hamdullah Fitrat, Deputy Spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate, stated that security at the border between Afghanistan and Iran is ensured and there is no threat from Afghanistan to that country.

The Deputy Spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate said that the issue of smuggling at the borders requires bilateral cooperation.

Fitrat said, "The security and defense forces of the Islamic Emirate are attentive to security at the border with Iran, and there is no security threat to them. Of course, the issue of smuggling, which is an international threat among countries, is something that cannot be completely eradicated."

Recently, Yaqoob Rezazadeh, deputy chairman of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, claimed that control at the borders of Afghanistan and Pakistan is not in the hands of the governments of these two countries and that arms smugglers are moving across the borders.

Yaqoob Rezazadeh also emphasized that the Iranian Ministry of Interior needs to have special plans for sealing the country’s borders.

Rezazadeh said, "Control at the borders of Afghanistan and Pakistan is not in the hands of the governments of these two countries, and if it is, it is very weak. Also, arms smugglers are moving across the borders."

Meanwhile, some experts emphasized the need for greater coordination between the interim government and neighboring countries to better ensure border security.

Mohammad Mateen Mohammadkhail, a military affairs expert, told TOLOnews, "There is no problem at the Iran-Afghanistan border. Afghan vehicles go to Mashhad, and Mashhad vehicles come to Herat. Efforts should be made to improve relations, but Iran’s problem is at the border with Pakistan, not Afghanistan."

Previously, Ahmad Vahidi, the Iranian Minister of Interior, also announced the implementation of a plan to close some of the country’s borders with Afghanistan and Pakistan.
