Migrants Deported from Pakistan Ask for Land

Some migrants who were forcibly returned from Pakistan have told TOLOnews that the Islamic Emirate has not yet distributed land to them.

These citizens also said that all their possessions were left behind in Pakistan, and they are in serious need of assistance from aid organizations.

“I don’t have a house. The government had promised to give us land, but this has not happened yet, and we are living in other people’s homes,” said Salamuddin, a migrant deported from Pakistan.

“We came to Jawzjan province. We have received some help, but it is not enough. Our main problem is shelter. When we arrived, it was cold, and we spent the winter under tents,” said Azad Khan, another migrant deported from Pakistan.

Zarif Khan, who recently returned from Pakistan with his family, said that life in Pakistan had become difficult for them in recent days and nights. He is seeking access to shelter.

Zarif Khan said: “We spent about 45 years in Pakistan, facing many problems, and our house was rented. Now that we have come to Afghanistan, we neither have land nor a place. We ask the government to solve these problems for us.”

Meanwhile, officials at the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation have said that they are awaiting a decree from the leader of the Islamic Emirate to distribute land to the returned migrants.

According to them, settlements have been prepared in cooperation with the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing in nearly 30 provinces for the relocation of the newly returned migrants, but the work has not been finalized yet.

“Currently, the settlements are being cleared, and some developmental work is being done there. Basic facilities like clinics and schools are being built, and we are waiting for the decree from Amir al-Mu'minin. Once the decree is issued, the distribution of land will start,” Abdul Mutalib Haqqani, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation, told TOLOnews.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation also said that most of the lands and settlements that are supposed to be given to the migrants have been seized by powerful individuals, and they are trying to reclaim the seized lands from them.
