Continued Mistreatment Will Disrupt Kabul-Tehran Relations: Ministry

The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation, in response to the mistreatment of Afghan refugees by Iranian police, has said in a statement that the continuation of this trend will disrupt relations between Kabul and Tehran.

In a statement, the ministry described the forced deportation and mistreatment of Afghan refugees as contrary to international laws and the principles of neighborliness and called on the Iranian government to allow Afghans the opportunity to voluntarily return to their country.

The statement reads: "Recently, reports of mistreatment of Afghans in Iran have been published, and distressing images have been circulated on social media, which have greatly concerned us. Just as the Islamic Emirate seeks good relations with all neighboring countries, we ask them to refrain from actions that harm bilateral relations or provide grounds for false propaganda."

"The caretaker government should summon the Iranian ambassador in Kabul and start serious discussions with that country’s officials to find a diplomatic solution to the challenges faced by Afghan migrants in Iran," said Bahram Behnam, a migrant rights activist.

At the same time, the leader of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement also reacted to the mistreatment of Afghan refugees in Iran, calling on the government of that country not to oppress Afghan refugees.

Meanwhile, several Afghan migrants have complained about the continued mistreatment by Iranian police and have called on the caretaker government to take action to address this issue.

"Afghan migrants in Iran are facing many problems, and they are being harassed, beaten, and extorted by the government," said Sharifullah Dost, an Afghan migrant in Iran.

"For the past few weeks, the situation for Afghan migrants in Iran has really deteriorated, and the Afghan government has not paid any attention to this issue," said Omid Hassani, another Afghan migrant in Iran.

This comes as the assistant to the Iranian Foreign Minister has stated that the Iranian government does not recognize any anti-migrant institution and considers it against the tradition of Islamic brotherhood and hospitality, calling anti-immigrant sentiment a foreign project.
