Security Situation Considered at Three-Year Mark of Islamic Emirate Rule

The Ministry of Interior told TOLOnews that anti-security incidents in the third year of the Islamic Emirate's rule have decreased by nearly 90% compared to the previous two years of the Emirate's rule.

Security has not only improved in the past year but has also seen an enhancement since the Islamic Emirate's return to power in Afghanistan, compared to the previous government.

The Islamic Emirate also considered the provision of security as one of its significant achievements in Afghanistan.

Abdul Mateen Qani, spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior, told TOLOnews: "Our recent assessment indicates that security incidents have decreased by approximately 90% or more compared to previous years, and security has been established."

At the same time, TOLOnews' findings show that in the third year of the Islamic Emirate's rule, more than 130 people were killed or injured in ten anti-security incidents across the country. These incidents occurred in the provinces of Baghlan, Kandahar, Herat, Bamyan, Badakhshan, and Kabul, resulting in the deaths of 39 people and injuries to 96 others.

Some of these significant incidents include the suicide attack at Imam Zaman Mosque in Pul-e-Khumri on October 13, 2023, the mine explosion in a market in western Kabul on 27th October 2023, the suicide attack near the Kabul Bank office in Kandahar on 22nd March 2024, and the shooting of foreign tourists in Bamyan on 18th May 2024. These events also sparked reactions.

Responsibility for some of these attacks was claimed by the ISIS group.

During this year, although no security threat from Afghanistan was directed towards other countries, some nations and organizations still expressed their concerns.

The United Nations Security Council, the Collective Security Treaty Organization, Russia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Iran were among those who consistently expressed concerns about the presence of certain groups in Afghanistan.

On 27th April 2024, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said: "The main threat to Central Asia comes from extremist terrorist groups based in Afghanistan, and the United States is trying to exert influence in the region after its 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan."

Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, said: "There is complete assurance that all of Afghanistan is under the control of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. The entire country is secure, and there is no individual or group that is unauthorized, armed, or poses a threat either inside Afghanistan or outside of it."

Border clashes between Islamic Emirate forces and Pakistani border guards were among the other security issues that occurred over the past year. Islamic Emirate forces engaged in multiple confrontations with Pakistani forces in parts of Torkham, Dand Patan, and Chaman, resulting in casualties on both sides.

On 18th March 2024, Islamabad launched attacks using Pakistani fighter jets on parts of Paktika and Khost, killing or injuring at least eight people, including women and children.

The Islamic Emirate called these attacks a clear violation of Afghanistan's sovereignty and stated that in response, parts of Pakistani territory were targeted.

In recent days, on the 25th of July 2024, the acting Minister of Defense of the Islamic Emirate, in a program praising the security forces, said that Afghanistan's current government would soon take control of the country's airspace.

Mawlawi Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, the acting Minister of Defense, said: "Our recommendation to anyone who violates this is to respect our country's airspace and not view Afghanistan and its sacred soil with disrespect."

Khalifa Sirajuddin Haqqani, the Acting Minister of Interior, also emphasized in this program that no terrorist group, including ISIS, is active in Afghanistan.

The acting Minister of Interior stated: "There is no force in Afghanistan under the name of opposition or rebellion that threatens the Islamic system, the system of the Islamic Emirate."

Despite all this, the citizens of the country seem satisfied with the security provision and say that security is better compared to the past, and they can travel to any corner of Afghanistan with peace of mind.

Qurban Mohammad, a resident of Kabul, told TOLOnews: "An Afghan can go from the corners of Kandahar to Pamir Badakhshan and from Pamir Badakhshan to Spin Boldak Kandahar."

The Islamic Emirate has always stated over the past three years that security across Afghanistan is better than ever; however, whether this level of security will continue in the future is a question only time can answer.
