Unidentified Gunmen Attack Daikundi Residents

The Ministry of Interior has confirmed an attack by unidentified individuals on the residents of Daikundi along the Daikundi-Ghor route.

Abdul Mateen Qani, the spokesperson for the ministry, did not provide any details to TOLOnews about the attack or the number of casualties.

Earlier, local sources in Daikundi had reported that unidentified gunmen opened fire on civilians in the Qardiwal area, near the border with Ghor, resulting in the death of 14 people and injuring four others.

This attack has sparked both domestic and international reactions.

Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, expressed regret over the killing.

Mujahid said on X that the Islamic Emirate strongly condemns this "brutal" act and considers it their duty to protect the lives and property of the people.

The spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate promised that serious efforts would be made to pursue and arrest the perpetrators of this incident.

Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Abdullah Abdullah, the former head of the High Council for National Reconciliation, also condemned the attack and expressed sympathy with the families of the victims.

Karzai described the attack as "a terrorist act and a crime against humanity and Islam," while Abdullah called it "brutal."

Additionally, the Iranian embassy in Kabul strongly condemned the attack and demanded that the perpetrators be brought to justice.

Nasser Kanaani, the spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also condemned the recent attack on the residents of Daikundi.

Kanaani, while supporting anti-terrorism measures, called on the interim government authorities to take immediate action to punish the perpetrators of this "crime."

According to local officials, the victims of this incident were residents of the Sang-Takht and Bandar districts of Daikundi who had gone to welcome pilgrims returning from Karbala.
