BRICS Yet to Decide on Participation of Islamic Emirate in Summit

Andrei Rudenko, the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, stated that no decision has yet been made regarding the participation of the caretaker Afghan government’s delegation in the BRICS summit.

In an interview with a Russian media outlet, Rudenko said that the BRICS countries have not yet reached a consensus on this issue.

According to the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, the uncertain status of the caretaker government, including its inclusion on Russia’s blacklist, is said to be an influential factor in the decision-making process.

Andrey Rudenko said: "It seems to me that there is no consensus yet on the issue of the participation of the Taliban delegation. But everything is in our hands.”

Naser Shafeeq, a university professor, said: “BRICS is a global organization that includes China, Russia, Brazil, and South Africa. They need time to decide whether Afghanistan is recognized as an accepted country by the world.”

Previously, the Islamic Emirate had requested to participate in the BRICS summit, which is scheduled to be held from the 22nd to 24th of this month in Kazan, Russia.

Salim Paigir, a political analyst, said: “If a delegation from the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan participates, it would be very beneficial for the people and the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, both economically and politically.”

This comes after, in a joint statement in June this year, the foreign ministers of the BRICS countries emphasized the peaceful resolution of Afghanistan’s challenges and expressed support for an independent, peaceful Afghanistan free from war, terrorism, and narcotics.
