As a result of an attack by Pakistani forces on members of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) in the outskirts of Peshawar, three members of the movement were killed, and ten others were injured.
This attack occurred when members of the PTM were setting up camps in preparation for a large Jirga planned for October 11 this year. The incident took place in the Regi Lalma area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
A leadership member of the PTM stated that the purpose of holding the Jirga is to find solutions to their challenges with the Pakistani government.
Malik Abdul Samad, a PTM leader, said: "Today, again, they launched a severe attack in which two of our friends were martyred, and ten others were wounded in this attack."
Manzoor Pashteen, the leader of the PTM, said that Pakistani officials are not allowing Pashtuns to hold the Jirga in their regions. However, despite these restrictions, the Pashtuns are determined to proceed with the Jirga.
The leader of the PTM posted on X: "This is the situation of the Pashtuns in Pakistan, where they are not allowed to hold gatherings according to their customs and traditions in their villages and historical areas. The business of the Pakistani government, which is built on the blood and resources of the Pashtuns, will be affected by this Jirga. Therefore, restrictions have been imposed on the PTM and the Jirga. The Pashtuns will surely hold this Jirga, God willing."
A member of the PTM said: "In the Jirga led by Manzoor Pashteen, every Pashtun Afghan will participate. Under the law of Pakistan, this is our right."
Another PTM member added: "It is our right to hold this Jirga for the Pashtun nation."
Meanwhile, last night, the Pakistani police attacked and destroyed the PTM camp in the Regi Lalma area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In this night raid on the camp set up for the Jirga, several PTM members were also injured.
At the same time, members of the Chaman protest movement have stated that they will continue their struggle for their rights and will attend the Jirga organized by the PTM on October 11 this year.
The Jirga, organized by the PTM, will be held on October 11 in the outskirts of Peshawar. Meanwhile, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has prohibited government employees from attending the Jirga.
