According to the Timber Sellers’ Union, the price of coal has dropped by about 1,000 afghani per ton.
Ajmal Wahidi, a member of the union, said: “Prices are better compared to last year. Last year, we sold a load of coal for 8,000 afghani, but this year it's 7,000. The reason is that there were more contracts with Pakistan.”
Meanwhile, some residents of the capital, due to economic difficulties, are calling on the government to lower the price of wood as well.
They say that during the cold season, they are forced to provide fuel for their homes, but the high cost of fuel has diminished their purchasing power.
Gul Mohammad, one of the buyers, said: "I came today to buy wood. A load of wood is between 12,000 and 13,000 afghani. I am poor and cannot afford it."
Karim, another buyer, said: "I ask the government to pay attention to the price of wood so that the poor can afford to buy it."
According to officials from the Timber Sellers’ Union, the price of a load of wood in the markets has reached 13,000 afghani, an increase of 3,000 afghani compared to last year.
